When you are learning about the culture, history, and geography of a country, you cannot do without any insight into the diversity of its culinary world. What do Latvians taste, what are Latvian favourite dishes and the secrets of preparing them – the interesents are invited to find it out during the “Delicious conversations’ afternoon”.
Four afternoons at the end of the year – 21st, 23rd, 28th and 30th December – will be dedicated to participants of the project “Explore Latvia” - to explore the diversity of different nations’ food, traditional dishes and the secrets of preparing them, who have successfully found their place in Latvia. Foreign nationals living in Latvia with their families and representatives of the local community are welcome to the online “Delicious conversations’ afternoons”, where they will be able to learn the favourite dishes in Latvia, such as herring “under a fur coat”, cabbage rolls, Alexander cake and gingerbread. During the meetings, we will talk about the roads through which these dishes have arrived in Latvian cuisine, their regional specialities, traditions, symbols, and ways of use. When discussing taste and culinary habits, we will have an insight into the national food of different nations.
“Delicious conversations’ afternoons” will be available online on the Zoom platform. They are developed in collaboration with the blog’s garsigalatvija.lv authors Sandra Osina (food, stories) and Valdis Osins (photo, video).
We welcome all the participants of the project “Explore Latvia” and representatives of the local community to participate in the “Delicious conversations’ afternoons”. The online events are for free!

On Tuesday, 24 November, 2020 from 15.00 to 18.00 the foreigners living in Latvia, with their families and representatives of the local community, are welcome to attend an educational, creative lesson – the Christmas decorations’ workshop. It will take place in Riga, Perses Street 9/11, (door code 10) on the 4th floor.
In an exciting workshop, we'll learn the basics of the various Christmas decoration techniques, will learn to create adorable decorations with our own hands, will let the Christmas mood come into our houses and hearts. During the workshop, each participant will make a practical object.

In order to promote the inclusion of persons, who are third-country nationals and who are legally residents in Latvia (immigrants) in Latvian society, free of charge lessons – integration courses will take place in Riga and other Latvia region places into the framework of the project “Izzinām Latviju”.
The courses will take place both in face-to-face and online classes!
The participants of the integration courses will explore the fundamental values of Latvia's history and the country, its political system, acquire knowledge of the social, educational and health services system in Latvia and accessibility, will get to know the situation in the labour market, employment, the opportunities to work or build their own business, as well as knowledge of Latvian culture, traditions and skills in the development of intercultural dialogue.
What are Latvia's economics, traditions, values, features compared to other countries in Europe and the world? Where and how can you make friends with the locals? What do you need to know to live successfully in Latvia? To these and many other questions the participants will receive answers in integration courses. The training will be organised as lectures and practical consultations. The courses will be led by experience-rich and knowledgeable lecturers. Training languages - Latvian, Russian or English.

On Friday, May 29, 2020 from 15.30 to 18.30 foreigners living in Latvia, with families and representatives of the local community, are welcome to attend an educational, creative lesson - a workshop of decoupage. It will take place in Riga, Perses Street 9/11, (door code 10) on the 4th floor.
In a fascinating lesson, we will learn the basics of decoupage technique, we will learn to create adorable dishes and interior accessories with our own hands and will let the interior articles live a second life. In the workshop, each member will make a practicable object.

Design of household objects.
Decoupage (ancient decoration technique) is an interesting and surprising method of designing different objects. It is a decorative technique used to decorate practically anything — porcelain, plastic, wood, paper, glass and even fabric. Using the right working materials – furniture, container sets, wooden boxes and even footwear and clothing – get a new and unique value.

On Friday, 15 May 2020, from 15.30 to 18.30 the foreigners living in Latvia with families and representatives of the local community are welcome to attend a creative lesson - workshop for the making of mouth and nose covers. The workshop will take place in Riga, Pērses Street 9/11, (door code 10) on the 4th floor.
In the context of national protective measures and the decision taken that passengers will be obliged to wear mouth and nose covers in the public transport; we offer to make such covers with our own forces. During one workshop you can learn basic skills and get information how to creative a wonderful protective mask with your own hands. Each participant of the workshop will be able to fit into the role of the artist and make a daily face cover for both, himself and his/her closest.

In order to promote the integration of persons, who are third-country nationals and, who are legally residents of Latvia (immigrants) into Latvian society, the Society “Green Meridian” in cooperation with the Training and Consultative Centre “Mensarius”, are implementing the project “Explore Latvia” from March to December 31, 2020.
All third-country nationals, who have obtained temporary residence or permanent residence permits or have arrived in Latvia for various reasons - work, study, family merger or other reasons, are invited to participate in the project activities. Representatives of the local community will also be invited to participate in some events, along with foreigners living in Latvia.
The main activities of the project will include integration courses, Latvian language courses, Latvian colloquial speech club and educational, intercultural communication promoting activities.
The integration course programme will offer the foreigners to explore the fundamental values of Latvia's history and the country, its political system, to acquire knowledge of the social, educational and health services system and accessibility in Latvia, to get to know situation in the labour market, employment, the possibility of employment or building their own business, as well as - knowledge of Latvian culture, traditions and intercultural dialogue skills. During the free of charge integration courses, it is planned to train 200 immigrants across all Latvia.
Latvian immigrants will be able to learn in 120-hour courses. In turn, to strengthen the learned knowledge of the language skills, they will be able to participate at the Latvian colloquial speech club in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The Latvian language courses and club lessons are planned in four regions of Latvia.
A series of activities. promoting intercultural communication and socialisation, will take place during the presentations of Latvian culture and art. Foreigners living in Latvia will be invited to visit Riga and Liepaja theatres, the Embassy of Latgale “Gors”, the art museum “Riga Bourse”, Riga Film Museum, Latvian Railway Museum and Jelgava St. Trinity Church. There will also be joint creative workshops in which immigrants will be invited to engage creatively and actively, and in the afternoons of tasty conversations, the participants will become acquainted with the Latvian and other nations’ cuisine and cooking secrets. Latvian craft skills’ acquisition workshops will take place in Piebalga, offering project participants to find out the values of the popular traditions included in the Latvian Cultural Canon and to jointly learn cheese dressing, pie baking, butter churning, wreathing of medicinal plants and summer solstice rituals.
